NHS 2010 graduates earn awards, scholarships

 


It was hard to tell if it was sun or the ceremony making everyone smile during the Naselle High School graduation. The graduating Class of 2010 had a total of 31 students. Alan Erickson was valedictorian and Karli Nelson salutatorian.

Erickson, Nelson and Drew Macy also graduated with High Honors and grade point averages between 3.75 and 4.0. Erickson also won the Bob Chamberlain Award.

Educational Honors also went to Emily Green, Nicole Laney, Calen Thompson, Orianne Condon, Tim Blaylock and Jesus Martinez for receiving GPA’s between 3.2 – 3.74.

Washington State also honors graduating students and the awards went to Erickson, Nelson and Macy. The State Principal’s Award and the American Citizenship Award also went to Erickson and Nelson.

The Wendy’s National High School Heisman Award went to Emily Green and Erickson and the United States Army Scholar Athlete went to Erickson and Nicole Laney and Laney also received the Elenora Hillis Award.

In music, the Naselle High School Musical Achievement Award and the National School Choral Award both went to Karli Nelson.

Naselle High School students also took away scholarships totaling $456,083.

Erickson worked hard in high school and that work paid off earning him a total of $169,833 in scholarships. Nelson came in second with a total $75,000 in scholarships.

Other high earners include Hannah Beatty who won the United States Montgomery GI Bill scholarship worth $80,000 and Cody Larson who won a United States Marine scholarship worth $80,000.

Two U.S. Army National Guard Scholarships were awarded to Manuel Lopez ($30,000) and Jesus Martinez ($30,000). Logan Scrabeck won the Olivet Nazarene University academic and athletic awards totaling $35,000.

Other scholarship winners include Orianne Condon who won the Helen Jones Memorial Scholarship, $10,000. Drew Macy $9,000, Cassie Bolton $3,300, Larry Johnson $1,800, Emily Green $2,000, Jodie Christie, $1,000, Calen Thompson, 1,500, Samantha Bauer, Nathan Carlson $2,250, Lindsay O’Kelly $2,300, Austin Burkhalter $1,000 and Justin Phillips $500.
