Election features three for PUD

August 12, 2010

Deep River resident Pam Anderson is a candidate for PUD Commissioner Position 3. The Eagle ran a story on July 29 about the other two candidates for the position, Dennis Reid of Skamokawa and incumbent Esther Gregg of Rosburg. The information below didn't reach The Eagle in time for publication in that issue.

Anderson is a graduate of Aberdeen High School and Clatsop Community College. She has lived in Deep River for over 30 years. She and her husband raise cattle and certified organic hay on their farm. She has served as a volunteer emergency medical technician for Wahkiakum County Fire District 3 for over five years.

Why run for the position?

I feel the need to learn more about how the local government works and to help people get what they need in a timely manner. I am dedicated, dependable, honest, fair, hard working, and loyal and strive to do the best I can in any situation with whoever I am working. I have the urge to learn and do more for the community. You never stop learning.

What do you hope to accomplish if elected?

Help complete the current projects in the district.

What is the biggest issue facing PUD District #3 and how should it be addressed?

The biggest issue would be the water rate increase. Many elderly people are on fixed incomes and their budgets are very strict. They are having a hard time with the current water rate. With the rate increase, it is going to be even harder on them, especially in the hard economic times that we are facing today. Maybe a special rate would work for the elderly. Could this special rate be in combination of age/disability/income? There is an answer to every problem; we just have to put all of our thoughts together and work together to help each other out to make it work for all.
