Come and help the Grays River and Skamokawa Granges at the Wahkiakum County Fair. The Grange food booth will be open all day August 19 – 21. We need volunteers. This is the biggest fund raiser of the year for Grays River Grange. Cooks, prep workers, and counter people are needed. Just stop by the food booth and volunteer, we will be happy to put you to work. Food booth is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Along with workers, we need hungry people so stop by and have a bite to eat.

The primary candidates forum held on July 27 at Johnson Park was well attended by candidates and audience members. Grange Master Krist Novoselic moderated the event where candidates were given the opportunity to speak and answer question from the audience. Esther Gregg, Bob Pyle, and Robert Larson were thanked for all their work in contacting candidates and getting the word out to everyone. Grays River Grange will be hosting another candidate’s forum on October 12, 7 p.m., at Johnson Park.

The Grays River Grange is considering taking over ownership of Ahlberg Park. The property has been owned and operated by the Wahkiakum Community Foundation. They did a top notch job maintaining this wonderful resource for the area -- right next to the historic covered bridge. The five-acre park was purchased in 2007 with funding from private donors and the taxpayers of Washington State with the support of late County Commissioner Mark Linquist, State Representatives Brian Blake and Dean Takko and State Senator Brian Hatfield. Due to the commitment the Wahkiakum Community Foundation has to the Julia Butler Hansen House, they are no longer able to maintain the park. In the event that the Wahkiakum Community Foundation was no longer able to hold the park, the seller stipulated that the park be offered to the Grays River Grange. The Grange would like to honor the previous landowner’s request and take over stewardship of Ahlberg Park. We also own and maintain Meserve Park and the Grays River Cemetery.

Grays River Grange meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by a business meeting at 7:30 p.m. Because of the fair – there is no meeting next week.
