As is the Grange tradition, Grays River Grange is sponsoring the spelling bee at the Wahkiakum County Fair. Appelo Archive Center has also contributed.

The bee will be held tomorrow (Friday) at 2 p.m. There are cash prizes for winners! The spelling words are taken from the National Spelling Bee list. Nancy and Peter McGuire will pronounce and say the words to each contestant. Thank you to Nancy and Peter for their continued support and assistance with the spelling bee. There are two grade groups: third, fourth and fifth; and sixth, seventh, and eighth. First place in each group will receive $75, second $50, and third place will receive $25. Not too bad for being a good speller. The Grange’s sponsorship of the spelling bee acknowledges the time when the Grange would buy schoolbooks for students who couldn't afford them. Years ago only those with money could afford to purchase school books and the rest had to do without. Another example of the Granges continued support of education.

Thanks to all of you who have sent in donations to help with the cleanup of the lot next door. We now have enough money to purchase three containers but will need your help to purchase the fourth. Grays River Grange would like to recognize our recent contributors and thank them for their support: Roland and Lori Scott, Esther Gregg, Vern Waterman, Marie Fauver, Norman and Myrtle Anderson, Robert and Lois Burkhalter, The Norm and Joyce Bolton of the Rosburg Store, Terry and Kim Tarabochia, and Beverly Wallace. We can’t do it without you.

The Grange is gathering items for a raffle that will be held later this year. If you are a craftsman or woman or business and would like to donate something to our raffle, please call the Grange at 465-2268 and leave a message and someone will get back to you. Your donated items will be greatly appreciated. The money from this fund raiser will go towards property cleanup and operational expenses.
