Pirates pound Comets 41-8 in playoffs

The Adna Pirates beat the Naselle Comets 41-8 last Friday in the state Class 2B football playoffs.

The loss was the Comets first of the season and left them with a 10-1 record. Adna, 10-1, advances to face Morton/White Pass in the quarterfinals; the Timberwolves handed the Pirates their only loss of the season.

The Pirates opened the scoring in the second quarter. The Comets scored on a safety when Adna muffed a Comet punt and the receiver was tackled in endzone. The Pirates kicked to the Comets after the safety, and two plays later, Bubba Lara intercepted a Comet pass and returned it to the endzone for a touchdown.

Comet quarterback Dustin Eaton then connected with Brenden Greenfield the for touchdown, cutting the Pirate lead to 13-8.

Adna responded with another touchdown drive and led 21-8 at halftime, and they controlled play in the second half to add three more scores.
