Lady Mules tip Cards; lose to Adna

The Wahkiakum Lady Mule basketball team won one game and lost another in tight Central League basketball this past week.

The Mules turned on the defensive pressure in the second half and overcame a four-point deficit to defeat the Winlock Cardinals 50-46 last Saturday in a game postponed from earlier in the week because of snow.

Winlock led 34-30 at halftime and 40-38 after three quarters. The Mules used a full-court press to slow the Cardinal offense, outscoring the visitors 20-12 in the second half.

Brieanna Olsen led the Mule scoring with 16 points. Maya Stanley added 10, Blaine Land seven, Baylee Olsen five, and Brianna Helms, Haylee Budd and Sam Boyce all had four.

Land grabbed 11 rebounds, and Budd had six.

The Mules led Winlock in turnovers17-9, but the Mules made 13 steals, and Winlock had none. Helms had four steals, Stanley three, Boyce and Gabby Mann two each, and Land and Baylee Olsen one each.

The Mule junior varsity defeated Winlock 52-17. Hailey Quigley led the way with 15 points," said JV Coach Steve McClain. "She received support from Kaylee Bryant 12, and Jessica Thomas and Whitney Kuller with eight."

Last Friday, the Mules lost a defensive struggle 41-32 to the visiting Adna Pirates.

Adna led 24-20 at halftime and opened a 37-28 lead in the third quarter.

Brieanna Olsen led the Mules with 12 points. Boyce had five; Budd, Land and Helms each had four and Baylee Olsen three. Land and Boyce each grabbed 10 rebounds; Boyce made four steals, and Stanley had four assists.

The Lady Mules visited Mossyrock last night (Wednesday). They entertain second ranked Napavine on Friday and Toutle Lake on Saturday.

The games with Toutle Lake will be a double header with the boys teams: Boys varsity and girls JV at 5:45 p.m. and girls varsity and boys JV at 7 p.m.
