County Treasurer Paula Holloway to retire

February 9, 2012

Wahkiakum County Treasurer Paula Holloway resigned her position effective the end of February.

Holloway has been county treasurer for 22 years.

In a Tuesday interview, she said she is ready to move on with her life.

"I'm ready to retire," she said.

She said she and her husband, Wayne, have always like eastern Washington, and they plan to move to Dayton.

"We'll keep our property on East Sunny Sands where I was raised, so we'll keep coming back," she said.

Local officials have begun the process of filling her elected position.

She is a member of the Democratic party, so party precinct committeepersons will meet next week to nominate three candidates to fill the position.

Those nominations will go to the county Board of Commissioners, who will appoint a person to fill the position for the rest of 2012.

Auditor Diane Tischer said the position will be on the fall election ballot, and any candidate may file for the position, which has a two-year unexpired term.
