Windy winter storm expected Tuesday

The National Weather Service (NWS) has forecast the arrival Tuesday afternoon of a winter storm with strong winds.

A high wind warning which is in effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday for the southern Washington and northern and central Oregon coasts. The southern Washington coast can expect south winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 60 mph near beaches and headlands. Coastal communities can expect south winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph.

Winds will increase Tuesday afternoon with the strongest winds late Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening. The winds will decrease once a cold front moves onshore by midnight.

In the lowlands and valleys along the Columbia, high temperatures should be in the 40s and lows in the mid-30s, the NWS says, with precipitation coming as rainfall.
