NICE HOLIDAY--Well, if you didn't have a great Labor Day weekend/holiday, it certainly couldn't have been due to the weather as it was pretty doggone nice. We had some clouds, some sun, and some wind but no rain, so hey, that's a big plus for those who were out there camping or enjoying one of the many activities that went on this weekend, there was lots to do! From the looks of the traffic on SR 4, there seemed to be a whole lot of people who were headed west to enjoy their time at the coast and possibly take in one last fling before school started. It's hard to believe it's September already and so we'll all need to be extra cautious with kids running here and there to catch buses, etc. so watch out for those little ones who have a tendency to dash out before they look out!

SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from September 6-12 are Tristan Collupy, Fred Bennett, Orville Lindsey, Cora Irving, Shirley Rose, Nathan Rose, Brent Linquist, Art Vik, Kay Buennagel, Eddie Johnson, Carla Keilwitz, Miya Kerstetter, Richard Bigler, Rex Gilbertsen, Paul Toney, Nathan Takko, Jo Reed and Samantha Pedersen. Belated birthday wishes go out to Bobby Wegdahl as I seemed to have skipped over his special day August 26, sorry about that. Hope you had a good day!

REUNION FOLLOW-UP--This Saturday morning, September 8, there will be a meeting at 10:30 a.m. at PJ's to follow up on the all school reunion that was held on August 4. Those attending should be able to tell the group what their role was in planning this past reunion and what went well and what needed improving. For those who didn't have any part in this past reunion but would like to be a part of the next one in 2016, your help would be greatly appreciated. The 100th Commemorative Years at WA-KI-HI will be what it's called and a Facebook page has already been set up for it. Just like this last reunion, word of mouth is very important in getting the news spread and so whether you are just talking to people, mailing them a Christmas card, or emailing or calling, make sure you mention this big reunion; it's never too early to talk it up and the more we mention it, the better the odds are that those folks out there that we were unable to reach this last time, will hear about it this next time. So, come with notebook in hand and help plan for the big 2016 All School Reunion! Also, Susan Anderson Sullivan and Linda Ferguson Stiltz are going to start interviewing people for a boolet entitled School Life in Wahkiakum County so they'd like to talk to those in the earliest graduating classes of the school. They'd like to know how you got to school, what did you have for lunch, who were your teachers and your favorites and what sports did you take part in, if any, and what was available? All the kinds of things that made for everyday living back then, but might vary greatly from today. By the time we have this next big reunion, they hope to have a very wide variety of stories from the good ole days to share with others.

THIS IS IT--Yes indeed, the time is finally here for you to join your friends for a fun evening of live and silent auction items while tasting all the yummy foods and tasty wines that the Friends of Skamokawa's annual Wine and Auction event always brings. I told you last week about their wide range of great live auction items, but don't forget, there are always a whole lot of wonderful silent auction items and so the tables will be full of fantastic things to make you jot down your number and hopefully you'll wind up being that last bidder and take home some super items. This is a great place to do some early Christmas shopping and of course, it all goes to a good cause as the FOS continues to maintain the wonderful, historic Redmen Hall. Remember, head to the Skamokawa Grange Hall this Saturday at 6:30 p.m. for an evening of fun!

GRANGE NAME--Speaking of the Grange, you might have seen ads on TV recently promoting The Grange, a new casino in Wood Village, Ore. The fraternal order of granges state and nation wide, have filed a class action suit against the group for using the name The Grange and if you'd like to help the granges with their cause, go to the website of this new proposed establishment at http://thegrangeoregon.com/ and then click on their contact tab and leave a message stating that their name is likely to be confused with the real grange organization and they should change theirs to one that is more appropriate. Your help is appreciated.

MEETING ON MONDAY--The Skamokawa Grange will be hosting the Pomona Grange on Monday, at 5:30 p.m. with a potluck and then we will hold our regular meeting after they are done with theirs. All are welcome.

ROD RUN--Also this weekend, the Rod Run at the End of the World will be taking place at the coast, so if you've got a house near SR 4, you'll be able to see a good deal of them driving by, either coming or going this weekend. Actually, the event starts on Friday afternoon with a Slow Drag at the Port of Ilwaco, so you might want to check that action out if you're down that way. At the Beach Baron's field in Ocean Park, you'll get to check out all the awesome cars at their Show and Shine event there. There will be live music on Saturday evening and the City of Long Beach has a trolley that goes to and from this event, so check out the website for all the details and go and have a great time at the beach!

SONS OF NORWAY--Just a reminder that the Sons of Norway meet on the first Wednesday of the month, the next meeting will be October 3. They've also decided that on the second Saturday of each month, they will be holding bingo, which is this Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m.

GREAT START--The Mules football team started out their season with a win over Mossyrock this past Friday night. It was a clear night with a rare blue moon hanging over the field as they put the Vikings down 34 to 14. I was happy to be right there when grandson, Austin Good scored the first touchdown of the night and Eagle editor, Rick Nelson, caught it on video and posted it on Facebook. We were all mighty proud! Of course, the Mules win is a team effort and many great plays came from various players, so good job everybody! We hope to see another win after their game this Friday night in Winlock. Go Mules!

IN OUR THOUGHTS--As once again we go through another September 11 anniversary of the World Trade Center towers coming down, let's all take a moment to remember those who lost their lives in this terrible tragedy and for those still dealing with the after-effects of it.
