Knappton Quarantine Station presenting guest speaker

The Columbia River Quarantine Station at Knappton Cove will host a guest speaker at a special program July 26, 1 to 4 p.m.

The program celebrates the125th anniversary of the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

Guest speaker USPHS RADM Patrick O’Carroll will speak at 1:30 p.m. about the historical role of the Public Health Service in protecting the health and safety of citizens and immigrants.

Visitors may also learn about the medical officers who served at the station and, in a family friendly event, experience a 1914 immigration physical and mental health evaluation.

The station is south of Naselle, three miles upriver from the north side of the Astoria/Megler bridge.
