In addition to several seasoned wrestlers there were a few new faces attending their first tournament ever. This is a big tournament for Wahkiakum because it brings in a lot of larger schools with stiff competition. The Mules have a small squad this year, with five wrestlers on Saturday, three boys and two girls.

The new wrestlers, Rayanna Carlon and Eli Velki, both found out that wrestling can be tough to figure out. Both lost the two matches they had but gained some valuable experience and understanding about how wrestling works.

Trynity Mendez lost her match as well but took fourth place in her weight class. Trystan Mendez lost a tough first match but came back to win his second and take third place at 195 pounds.

Alex Johnson started out with two quick pins in the first period in each of his starting matches and then won a close one, 6-4, to take the championship at 145 pounds.

The Mules will head to Warrenton next weekend for another Saturday tournament.
