Mule boys wind up season

Despite obvious growth throughout this year, the Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team was not able to turn the numbers in their favor and ended the week with two more losses. They finished the season 2-16 in league and 3-16 overall.

Last Wednesday, Brandon Budd and Kael McKinley were honored for Senior Night before the team took the floor against the Toledo Indians.

Like many games during the second half of the season, the Mules found themselves playing catch up. Behind by as much as 21 in the third quarter, they outscored the Indians 20-3 in the fourth quarter and gave Toledo a scare, ultimately losing 55-59.

Brandon Budd had a double double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal. Zach Brown had 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Joey Moore had eight points and three rebounds. Hank Ferguson added seven points, three rebounds and two assists. Ryan Quigley had five points, two rebounds and one assist and Cody Terpsma scored two points and pulled down three rebounds.

The Mules shot 58 percent from the free throw line.

On Friday, the team traveled to Toutle Lake and lost their final game of the season 35-52.

Budd had another double double with 14 points, 13 rebounds and one assist. Moore had 12 points, one assist and one steal. Quigley had seven points and four rebounds. Brown had four points, seven rebounds and one assist. Ferguson added eight rebounds and one assist.

"We had a rough year from a win/loss perspective," Coach Todd Souvenir said, "but we were competitive in most games and I really thought the boys worked hard and never gave up."

"I would also like to recognize the student sections at both the boys and girls games," Coach Souvenir said. "It seems like our school spirit and support is at a high level and made the games fun for all.

If you're quiet, you might still hear the echo of the student section crowing to the boys team, "we are proud of you, yes, we are proud of you."
