Coast Community Radio to celebrate National Radio Day

August 6, 2015

Coast Community Radio will celebrate National Radio Day on August 20. This event honors radio broadcasts in the United States. WWJ in Detroit Michigan was the first radio station in the world to broadcast regularly scheduled programs starting on August 20, 1920. It is not an official national holiday but everyone is encouraged to participate and appreciate the importance of radio.

The invention of the radio dates back to the late 1800’s. One person cannot be credited with this innovation. To make the radio a reality, it required a number of different inventions and discoveries including both transmission and reception methods as well as technology.

To celebrate National Radio Day, listen to your favorite radio station (Coast Community Radio stations) and give a special recognition to your local radio personalities.

August 20 is also National Lemonade Day and at Coast Community Radio they will bring the two together.

Join them at the station (14th and Exchange) on August 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a dose of radio and a tall glass of lemonade.

"What could be better on a summer day than your favorite radio programs and an ice cold glass of lemonade," said Susan Boac, Development Director at Coast Community Radio.

Coast Community Radio broadcasts along the Oregon and Southwest Washington coast. Listen at KMUN 91.9 Astoria, KTCB 89.5 Tillamook, KCPB 90.9fm Warrenton, streaming on the website coastradio.org and from any mobile device on the TuneIn app.
