Westend news:

I would like to personally thank Steve and Linda Ramsay for the amazingly delicious Prime Rib Dinner last Saturday evening in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. A special thank you also to Shonda Ware, Sharon Booth (a friend of Linda’s), Tim Virkkala (the dishwasher), and PJ Katims and Rebecca Ware (our terrific servers). Without volunteers like you, fundraisers like this one could not happen. Thank you so much. The meal was absolutely the best. Thank you also to all those folks who bought tickets for the event, in support of your community center.

The first Annual Lasagna Dinner to benefit the West End Food Bank, located in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 5-7:30 p.m. in Rosburg. This delicious Lasagna dinner includes salad, breadsticks, dessert and beverage.Tickets $10 per person (children 5-12 half price) at the Food Bank on Thursdays 1-5 p.m. or from Shonda Ware by calling 360-465-2722 or at the door on Saturday night. Directions: Turn off SR4 opposite the Altoona Rd exit and go up the hill on the school driveway into Johnson Park.

The West End Food Pantry is in need of a donated refrigerator. If anyone has one they would like to donate have them contact Shonda at 465-2722. They could also use a few more volunteers to help out on Thursdays 1-5 p.m.

New hours for the Sewing Center in the Grays River Valley Center begin next week. The center will be open on Tuesdays from 11 a.m.. to 2 p.m. If you are interested in doing some sewing there in the evening or for a special project by appointment, please call Cindy at 465-2880.

This week’s Free Friday Night Movie synopsis: This time a covert operative resorts to time travel in an effort to corral a criminal who has managed to elude him through the years. Unfortunately, this time-travel journey is filled with lots of unexpected twists and turns, making it a thrilling story. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Are you looking for something fun to do on Halloween? Please join us on September 25 at 5 p.m., prior to the Free Friday Night Movie. The Johnson Park Advisory Board is meeting to plan for our annual Halloween event at Johnson Park. As usual we will have free indoor trick or treating, popcorn and a movie, but are looking to expand the event with a few more activities for the kids. With that in mind, we need volunteers, a few new ideas and willingness to help out. Please join us. We will also be looking for donations of candy for the event.

Our annual OktoberFest is slated to be held October 10, 5-7 p.m. with authentic Sauerbraten, spaetzel, and home made apple strudel. More information in next week’s column. Proceeds from this event will be used for operating costs for the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets each week in the Rosburg Hall for a home cooked meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew.

On Thursdays, a senior meal is also served in the Rosburg Hall and is sponsored by CAP. Lunches for both venues are served at noon.

My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to Pat Potter and her family with the passing of her husband, William, earlier this week. He had suffered ill health for quite a long time.
