Rain, rain, flood, flood. Here we go again. This has certainly been a wet beginning to the holiday season. We are once again house bound for a few days, not that I really mind as we are high and dry, well stocked and safe with our critters.

It doesn’t look like the weather is going to get much better for a few days, so I hope other folks are prepared. There were trees down and even a wash out of one lane on Covered Bride Road near Barr Road on Tuesday. Be safe and check on your neighbors and their pets.

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School Board meeting will be held on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

I’m sure many of you (especially active sponsors) were aware that the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park was closed to the public for most of last week. With all that is going on in our world, it is good to know that our police force is learning how to deal with many issues, including active shooter incidents. Thanks to our sheriff’s department, the old Rosburg School became a training ground for dealing safely with such events last week. Local volunteers were recruited to help out with the scenarios and probably learned as much about how to react to a given situation as the officers did.

We hope to offer the building again to the trainers, and we thank them, the sheriff’s department, the volunteers and the public for their understanding of the building closure.

The Free Friday Night Movie this week is a 2010 release rated PG-13. Synopsis: Perseus, mortal son of Zeus, battles the minions of the underworld to stop them from conquering heaven and earth. An epic adventure for the whole family.

Concessions are also available with pop, candy and popcorn (with a free refill at intermission) for reasonable prices. Bring the kids, sleeping bags or comforters and pillows to lay on the floor in front of our big screen and enjoy.

Don’t forget to get your tickets early for the annual Crab and Oyster Feed that is sponsored by the American Legion Deep River Post #111. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, January 23.
