It was the final game for seniors Joey Moore and Ryan Quigley.

The Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team ended their season with two tough losses last week. One more win might have afforded the team a trip to district, but it remained out of reach.

On Wednesday, the team traveled to Toledo. The Mules stayed close in the first quarter 17-22, but the Indians outscored the boys by 17 points in the second quarter and continued to stretch the lead throughout the game. The Mules could never catch up and lost 55-90.

Ryan Quigley scored 15 points to lead the Mule scoring. Hank Ferguson added 12 points. Luke Brown had nine points and Joey Moore had six. James Anderson scored five points. Zach Brown, Evan Quigley, Cody Terpsma and Casey Wilson added two points each.

"We came out ready to play offensively," Coach Todd Souvenir said, "but defensively we were flat and didn't play with the same energy as the Onalaska game. Zach wasn't feeling well and since we were down 27 going into the fourth quarter we rested the team in hopes of a chance at making districts with a win against Toutle on Friday. Unfortunately, Pe Ell lost to the Loggers and that ruined our plans."

The Mules faced Toutle Lake at home for the final game of the regular season on Friday. The Mules were down by just two at the end of the first quarter but were unable to maintain that energy and lost 43-68.

R. Quigley scored 14 points. Moore had 11 points and three steals. Z. Brown added nine points and seven rebounds. L. Brown had five points. Ferguson scored four points and had one block.

Moore, who gave everything to the game, went so far as to sacrifice a tooth when he chipped it on Friday. He stopped to spit it out after a particularly hard hit by a Toutle player.

"We came out and played with lots of energy on senior night," Souvenir said, "but we couldn't recover from a rough second quarter against a very young and talented Toutle team."

"I was very proud of the team as a whole for competing in each and every game from start to finish," Souvenir said. "I thought we improved as the year went on which showed in our two home wins versus teams that we struggle with the first time around."
