N/GRV School Board Notes

February 18, 2016

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on February 16.

Several personnel moves were approved. These included the resignation of Jacque Leal, Youth Camp School Librarian, and Brian Macy, Middle School Track Coach. Linda Wulf was hired as NYCS Librarian, and Herlet Watson was hired as a long-term para-educator substitute.

A $1,000 donation from Wahkiakum West was accepted for the Naselle Mandarin Immersion Program and K-3 non-Immersion program.

An overview of the work the Facilities Committee had done was presented. It is projected the committee will wrap up the five year facilities master plan this spring. A discussion also revolved around the possibility of the district winning a grant award for a covered play area. The grant status will be known mid-March.

A letter regarding unsafe Walk to School routes within one mile of the school was acknowledged which will allow reimbursable bus service for students within one mile of the school. This is because there are no sidewalks or lighting along the road and much heavy truck traffic making the roads unsafe for walking in low light conditions.

Superintendent Lisa Nelson recognized the Girls Basketball Team for their excellent season and stated that the Knowledge Bowl Team will be heading to state once again for the fifth consecutive year.

The board held an executive session to evaluate the performance of the superintendent. After reconvening and calling the meeting to order, a motion was made to add a year to the superintendent’s contract. A roll call vote was taken with all board members voting yes to the extension.
