It’s Groundhog Day! Will he see his shadow? Not looking good for an early summer.

Sports calendar for the coming week includes: Today (Thursday), high school boys and girls basketball at Lake Quinault at 5:45 p.m .; Saturday, high school boys and girls basketball with Taholah in Naselle at 3:00 p.m .; Monday, middle school boys basketball at Raymond at 5:45 p.m .; Tuesday, District 1B IV Tourney-girls 1st round; Wednesday, middle school boys basketball with North Beach in Naselle at 5:45 p.m. and District 1B IV Tourney- boys 1st round. Go Comets!

One of the neatest evenings of the year for many kids and their families is the evening of poetry elocution which takes place this year on Friday, at 6 p.m.

Join Rising Star/Liu Xing Group and Naselle-Grays River Valley School Mandarin Immersion students as they celebrate the Chinese New Year - The Year of Fire Rooster. This year’s celebration will be held at the Chinook School in Chinook from 4 p.m. to 12 midnight on Saturday.

There will be lots to do during this event including a Live Auction, Silent Auction, Oyster and Beverage Bar and a delicious Chinese Dinner. The Naselle-Grays River Valley School K-4 Mandarin Immersion students will be performing as well.

Tickets may be purchased at the Azure Salon in Ilwaco and Normand Electric in Naselle. Ticket prices are as follows: Individual- $25, family-(two adults and one child)- $55, each additional child- $5.

The American Legion Auxiliary, Deep Post #111 will once again host their Annual Valentine Smorgasbord and silent auction. This year’s event will take place on February 12 in the Naselle High School Commons from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Enjoy an afternoon of all you can eat salads and main dishes and delicious home made pies and cakes. Ticket prices for adults and teens are $12, for pre-teens are $6 and children under six for $2.

Proceeds from this event will benefit veteran’s needs, local scholarships and charities.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets each week in the Rosburg Hall for Pat Potter’s weekly contribution to our senior community. She and her volunteers always provide a delicious home cooked meal for the many attendees.

On Thursdays, CAP provides a senior lunch as well in the Rosburg Hall and the meals are served for both venues at noon.

Just a head’s up for any of you that are wondering about what I will be doing with my books that were removed from the Grays River Valley Library. Grays River will soon have it’s very own free library. Update will be coming soon.
