Spring is in the air, daffodils are beginning to bloom, the frogs are singing but I’m still looking for my first trillium of the year. I have even seen a few eagles in the trees near the Grays River waiting patiently for the fish to come in.

News from Naselle:

Great job, Naselle Comet and Comette basketball teams! They will both advance to the regional playoffs. On Friday, the Comets will take on Taholah once again at Tumwater high school at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the Comette team will play Neah Bay at Mt. Tahoma high school at 10 a.m. Winners of these games will advance to the state tournament which will be held in Spokane March 1-4. Best of luck, and you have made your school family and community very proud of your efforts this year. Go Comets and Comets!

Students will have their mid winter break cut short this year due to weather related make up days. They will be in class on March 1 and 2 but will have a long weekend with Friday off.

Just another reminder that when you are out doing your weekly shopping, please keep the West End Food Pantry in mind. With all the weather related problems this time of year they can always use extra supplies. I have been told that this month they are really short on canned meats, breakfast cereal, canned fruits, canned pork and beans, and dried pasta, especially spaghetti. Other items that are always needed are peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, Rice-a-Roni, chili, raviolis, Spaghettios, dried peas, beans, and lentils. Fruit juices are always needed as well. If you wish to donate from the Naselle area you can drop items off with Lori at the Naselle Post Office. Please help this organization continue to help our neighborhood families and children in need, who may not have easy access to regular healthy meals.

Other items that are always needed could include personal hygiene products, cleaning supplies and pet food.

The West End Food Pantry relies totally on your generous donations. You can drop off items at their site in Johnson Park when they are open on Thursdays 1-5 p.m. in the north end of the building. You can become a regular contributor by sending monthly monetary contributions to PO Box 55, Rosburg, WA 98643. Your tax deductible receipt will be mailed to you.

Tickets are available now for a fundraiser for the pantry. Join them on March 11, 5-7:30 p.m. in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. Tickets are $10 each and $5 for children 10 and under. Tickets are available at the West End Food Pantry on Thursdays from 1-5 p.m. or call Shonda at 465-2722. All proceeds help support the West End Food Pantry, serving residents of Grays River, Rosburg and Naselle. Together we can make a difference!

The Grays River United Methodist Church will host a very special coffee hour on March 5 from noon to 3 p.m. in honor of Bob Larson's 90th birthday. I’m sure his knowledge of our community and its politics extends far beyond those 90 years. He is a fine man, and has done his share to make our community the wonderful place it is.

Please join in and congratulate him, enjoy cake, coffee and finger foods during this celebration for a good man. Birthday cards are always appreciated but please, no gifts.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets each week in the Rosburg Hall for a home cooked meal that is prepared and served by Pat Potter and her loyal crew of volunteers. Come sit down and enjoy a lunch with your friends and neighbors.

On Thursdays, CAP sponsors a senior lunch and it is also served in the Rosburg Hall. The meals are served at noon for both days.
