Annual spring salmon derby in Cathlamet March 31 and April 1

 


The Spring Chinooks of the Lower Columbia River are said to be some of the best tasting salmon and spring fishing season is here! The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce will host its annual “Hook the Hawg” Salmon Derby on March 31 and April 1, at the Elochoman Slough Marina in Cathlamet.

This is a two-day event commencing at 4:30 a.m., on Friday, March 31, and finishing in the evening on Saturday, April 1. Check in at the chamber’s booth in the morning before heading out to fish. All salmon should be gilled and not gutted. Weigh-in each day will be 2-5 p.m. Cash prizes and custom fishing rods will be awarded for Men’s, Women’s and Youth Competitions.

The “Hook the Hawg” Salmon Derby is a fundraising event to provide a Wahkiakum High School senior with a scholarship to attend a college, university, or trade school after graduation.


Tickets for the “Hook the Hawg” Salmon Derby are available at the following locations: Bank of the Pacific Cathlamet, Elochoman Slough Marina, Moore Auto, Skamokawa Resort, and the day of the event. Adult tickets are $20; Youth tickets 17 and under are $10.
