This past week has been a great catch up time for my sisters and me. Just hanging out with no particular rhyme or reason for doing things, except being together. We had a wonderful time at the Little Mermaid play in Naselle last Saturday evening. On Monday, since it was such a lovely day, we headed to Woodland to visit the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens. What a lovely place to visit, beautiful gardens with a variety of flowers and trees, but a concentrated effort on lilacs. The old home of Hulda Klager is maintained beautifully with knowledgeable people on hand to tell many stories to you. It was delightful. If you have never made the trip, it is well worth the drive.

If you missed the Little Mermaid Jr. production sponsored by the Naselle Drama Club, you really missed a good time and an enjoyable play. Everything about the play was wonderful, the actors and actresses were impeccable in their roles, the sound and lighting was very well done and the scenes were great. Thank you to the cast and crew for a wonderful evening for my sisters and me.

Sports calendar for the Naselle Comet teams: Thursday, middle school track--league meet at North Beach, district baseball in Naselle with the winner between Quilcene or Mt. Rainier; Saturday, district baseball being played in the SW Athletic Complex, 2801 SW Thistle St. in Seattle.

The regular monthly meeting of the Naselle-Grays River Valley School Board will take place on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Students will be released early at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday for inservice.

Come and help one of the community’s favorite folks celebrate his 95th birthday on Saturday, 10 a.m., in the Appelo Archive Center. Carlton Appelo will be the honoree as he celebrates with cake and coffee and his friends and neighbors. The center is located on SR 4 in Naselle.

The annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive will take place this coming Saturday. You can help. Watch for your bag to be delivered with your mail sometime this week and fill it with canned goods and non perishable items, put it near your mailbox or deliver it to the local post office. The mail carriers will pick it up and deliver it to it’s destination. This is the 25th year of this program.

The 33rd annual Great White Tail Run will be run on May 20 with 10K, 5K and 2 mile runs through the Julia Butler Hansen National Refuge in Skamokawa. Registration on race day begins at 8:30 a.m. if you have not preregistered. The race begins at 10 a.m. and awards will be given for overall male and female winners in each event with ribbons for the top three finishers in each age division.

“What a Wonderful World.” is the theme chosen for this year’s Grays River Methodist Church Friendship Circle’s 15th annual Spring Tea and Luncheon. The event will be held on May 21 in the Rosburg Hall at 11:30 a.m.

Regular raffle tickets are only $1 for the pick your own prize. Both the auction and raffle will be ongoing throughout the afternoon. Proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to the West End Food Pantry.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets every week in the Rosburg Hall for a delicious home cooked lunch that is prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteers.

On Thursdays a senior meal is also served in the Rosburg Hall and is sponsored by CAP.

This coming Sunday we celebrate all the moms out there. Being a mother doesn't necessarily mean you gave birth to a child. It means you opened your heart and gave your unconditional love to a child who needed a mom. Moms are pretty special people, so please remember to celebrate yours. It’s nice to receive a gift or a card or even a phone call so you can hear their voice. But, there is nothing more precious than holding them close in your arms and hearing them say “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom. I love you.”

So to all the mothers out there, have a wonderful day. And remember, she is the one who loved you first.
