Comettes claim state championship

Lillian Zimmerman’s third throw in the shot put was enough to bring home a first place medal at the State 1B Track and Field Meet in Cheney, which took place last weekend. The throw of 35-04.75 was also a new personal record for the sophomore at Naselle High School.

Others earning medals for the Comettes include:

Sophie Scrabeck tied for fifth in the pole vault, clearing 8-00. She took seventh in the javelin with a throw of 107-00.

Ellie Chapman placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.36, and fifth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 49.32. She also took sixth in the high jump, clearing 4-10.

Parker Dalton cleared 10-00 in the pole vault for fifth place.

Shon McEneny had the seventh farthest throw of 116-00 in the discus.

Amelia Tutu’u, Jordan Clark, Lia Willenbrock, and Jaclyn Steenerson had a seventh place finish in the 800m relay with a time of 2:00.32.

Willenbrock, Ellie Miller, Amelia Ruch, and Micah Cenci finished the 1600m relay in 4:52.54 and placed seventh.

Mules earn medals at state

Wahkiakum Mule runners made it into the finals in two events at the State 2B Track and Field Meet in Cheney last weekend.

Macie Elliott, a sophomore, took fourth place in the 400m at the State 2B Track and Field Meet in Cheney on Saturday with her fastest time ever, 1:01.62.

Elliott, along with Cheyenne Barton, Charlie Ashe, and Ellie Leitz took seventh place in the 1600m relay with a time of 4:26:47.

On Friday in the prelims, Barton ended her bid to medal in the 400m with a time of 1:03.95, not fast enough to break the top eight. Leitz finished the 800m in 2:32.02, just 1.21 seconds slower than the eighth best time. Barton, Ashe, Mckensi Fluckiger and Elliott ran a 1:53.51 800m relay. It was not fast enough to qualify for the finals on Saturday.
