Clarification offered

To The Eagle:

As a participant of the Wahkiakum Community Network, I think it is important to make a clarification to last week’s letter dealing with underage drinking. Ginger Hake is credited with last week’s letter but the Wahkiakum Community Network, including myself, was involved with the writing of the letter. I offer this clarification because I don’t want anyone to mistake the letter as a chance to praise Patrol Sergeant Mark Hake. The letter’s intention is to take a much needed opportunity to address a local issue of underage drinking. In fact, Deputy Catherine Hager and Deputy Josh Scholton were also wonderfully instrumental in the handling of the local “Minor in Possession” (MIP) situation.

I believe that any person close to Patrol Sergeant Mark Hake is proud of his great work in our community. However, the letter’s purpose is to draw attention to a unified community concern and effort, including the law enforcement, for addressing underage drinking. The issue of underage drinking is not one that must be swept under the rug or taken lightly, but is one that can ignite uncompromised compassion from us for the well-being of our youth and the health of our community.
