Human jawbone found near Brookfield

August 3, 2017

A Hancock Timber employee was out with his dog at Brookfield when he found a human jawbone on the beach July 26, according to Wahkiakum County Prosecuting Attorney and Coroner Daniel Bigelow.

The man notified the Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Office, and personnel found additional fragments after a more detailed search.

The remains are now being examined by Katherine Taylor, the forensic anthropologist for the state of Washington.

Bigelow said there may be some genetic material attached to the jawbone. A DNA test has not been ruled out, it would be paid by Wahkiakum County funds.
