Sheriff's Report, August 3, 2017

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

Between July 24 and July 30, the Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Office pulled over 134 motorists. The bulk of the vehicle stops occurred in a two day period, on Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29, when the deputies issued at least 88 warnings and 28 citations.

July 24 — 9:37 a.m. A caller notified the sheriff’s office that Covered Bridge Road would be closed for repair for the next month. Emergency vehicles would still have access. 10:18 a.m. A Puget Island resident asked for assistance after her horse got stuck in mud. 2:36 p.m. A visitor to Vista Park reported that she had been assaulted. An individual was taken into custody. 4:13 p.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to be on the look out after a bank in Naselle was robbed. 4:49 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to the report of an overdose at a Cathlamet home. 5:40 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen. 7:29 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded when a caller reported that an individual had lost consciousness at a bus stop in the Rosedale area.


July 25 — 3:39 a.m. A caller reported a drifting sailboat in the Cathlamet channel. A second call came in with a report that someone had pulled up the anchor and was moving the sailboat upstream. 8:04 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a Rosedale resident to the hospital. The individual had fallen the day before. 9:32 a.m. A caller reported that a truck was blocking access to the boat launch in Skamokawa. 2:03 p.m. A caller reported that someone had kicked in a door to a vacant home in Cathlamet. 2:48 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Alger Creek resident who had fallen more than once. 3:28 p.m. After hearing sounds of something being struck and constant screaming, a caller requested a welfare check on children at a Rosedale home. A deputy responded and found the kids were calm, but dirty. An adult in the home said the kids had been screaming while they played in the driveway, where they had gotten dirty and a parent said that they had been visited by Child Protective Services earlier in the day. The deputy planned to contact the person from CPS. 4:55 p.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to be on the lookout for an individual who had fled with a child from Seattle and was believed to be headed south. He was last seen in Longview.


July 26 — 5:52 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 6:07 p.m. A visitor at Vista Park reported that he was being threatened and harassed. He was advised to get a restraining order. 11:07 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a suspicious vehicle.


July 27 — 2:16 am. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen and was unable to get up. 1:21 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that a subject had violated a no contact order. 2:58 p.m. A caller reported that a horse had gotten stuck in a creek in the Skamokawa area; a deputy, the District 4 Fire Department and the Skamokawa Fire Department responded. 4:08 p.m. A caller reported that a tree was down on a Deep River road. 4:19 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who was complaining of tingling in his extremities and shortness of breath. 4:23 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported an assault. 5:13 p.m. An individual was in custody after deputies and a domestic violence advocate responded to a domestic disturbance at a Skamokawa home. 6:35 p.m. A caller reported that a motorhome had struck several mailboxes on a Rosedale road. 7:07 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported hearing several shots fired. 7:39 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on SR 4 near Little Cape Horn. 8:09 p.m. A Puget Island resident complained about a neighbor who had been firing weapons for more than an hour. 9:31 p.m. Dispatch called a Deep River home, after a 911 call and hang up. An individual living at the home said that there had been an argument but that everything was fine. Dispatch offered to send a deputy but the caller said they would be asleep before one arrived.

July 28 — 1:22 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that he had a leaking water heater and that he had tried and failed to turn off his water. The PUD was notified. 4:15 a.m. A caller reported that a horse was loose on a Puget Island road. A possible owner was notified. 9:39 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported that she had been attacked by a neighbor’s dog after it came on her property. The caller said the dog’s owner had a no contact order against her. 2:03 p.m. A wallet and phone were found and returned to their owner. 3:17 p.m. A caller reported that two dogs had charged her and her dog while they were walking on a Puget Island road. A deputy spoke with the owners who said they would remedy the matter. 5:54 p.m. A caller reported that someone had stolen hay out of her Elochoman Valley barn. She called later to say the hay had not been stolen, it had been a misunderstanding. 10:01 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had a rapid pulse and severe abdominal pain.


July 29 — 9:32 a.m. A motorcycle accident was reported on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area; a deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. 10:44 a.m. A caller reported that someone had vandalized one of the coin operated showers at the marina in Cathlamet. The person also said that one of the people camping at the marina had reported that some alcohol had been stolen. 4:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had an allergic reaction. 5:03 p.m. A motorist was taken into custody after a vehicle stop for driving with a suspended license.


July 30 — 9:54 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported a power outage. The PUD was notified. 10:55 a.m. A caller reported finding a horse at a logging gate in the Elochoman Valley. The owner was contacted. 12:32 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Grays River resident. 3:32 p.m. A Puget Island resident was concerned about a dog that was barking like it was hurt. 7:16 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on a Puget Island road. 7:31 p.m. A caller reported that an individual was harassing his son. 11:23 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on SR 4 near Nassa Point.
