Stanley W. Everman

Stanley Watts Everman, 100, longtime Cathlamet resident, died in Longview on August 2, 2017. He was born in Rainier, Ore., to Lorenzo and Clara (Watts) Everman on February 21, 1917.

Stan grew up in Rainier and graduated from Rainier High School in 1935. In 1939 he married Alice Bryant and she preceded him in death in 2010 after 70 years of marriage.

Stan worked for Smith Tug and Barge from 1933-1953 until he started Deep River Towing Company where he was owner and captain until 1982. He was licensed to operate tugs in the ocean and inland waters and even designed and built a tugboat for his nephew, as well as building 12 pleasure boats for himself and family members.

He was a talented craftsman and spent countless hours in his woodshop. He was a member, deacon and trustee of the United Church of Christ in Cathlamet for over 50 years. He and Alice enjoyed traveling, walking and fishing.


Stan is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Karen and Jerry Davis of Snohomish; a son Curtis Everman of Longview; a daughter-in-law Sandy Everman of Cathlamet; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to Alice, Stan was preceded by a son, Terry Everman and a brother, Howard Everman.

Stan's family wishes to thank the staff of Rai Angels Adult Family Home for the loving care Stan received for the past seven months.

A funeral service will be held at the UCC Church in Cathlamet on Thursday, August 24, at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Green Mountain Cemetery in Rainier. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Cathlamet First Aid Division, 375 2nd St., Cathlamet, WA 98612. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
