Skyline Golf Clinic attendees recently wrapped up their summer session competing at the Mint Valley Junior City Championship in Longview. Six of the 30 junior golfer competitors that finished four days of competition on August 10 were from Wahkiakum County.

The competition included a scramble on day one, individual competition on day two and flighted match play on days three and four.

On day one of the scramble, Tyler St. Onge and Heidi Bruntmeyer were on different teams and both tied for first place on the long course. After shooting 69 in regulation, there was a playoff that lasted three extra holes, and still no winner was determined. How fun!

On the par three course scramble, Nick St. Onge was on the winning team that shot 41. Wyatt Bruntmeyer and Sebastion Britt were on the team that finished second, scoring 45.

Match play on days three and four: Three years in a row, Tyler St. Onge has captured a first place trophy in his respective flight. After winning the fourth flight two years ago and the third flight last year, this year he captured the second flight on the long course, winning the semifinal three holes up with two to play, and in the final five and four. (In match play you only count the holes you win). Also competing on the long course were third place medal winner Elijah Doiron who beat teammate and fourth place medal winning Heidi Bruntmeyer.

Capturing a first place trophy for the second year in a row on the par three course was Tyler's younger brother Nick St. Onge, winning the third flight by beating teammate and second place medal winner Sebastion Britt by one stroke. Wyatt Bruntmeyer collected a fourth place medal in the second flight.

"Our thanks to the owners and staff at Skyline Golf Course who have provided the facilities for these kids to learn the game of golf at no charge," Vavoudis said. "Fourtheen different kids took advantage of some 19 lesson dates this summer and the results are showing. Thank you Skyline!"
