N/GRV School Board Notes

October 19, 2017

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on October 17.

During the board meeting, one personnel matter was approved. The board approved a one year leave of absence for Haleigh See from coaching middle school basketball.

Also approved was the Facilities Committee Master Plan for the next three years.

Youth Camp Principal Gary Flood provided an update on Youth Camp students graduating and earning their General Equivalency Diplomas (GEDs).

The board heard three proposals for naming the new building on campus. The board chose the name Grabenhorst-Hall Fieldhouse in honor of long-time employees and community members A.R. “Dick” Grabenhorst and Merle Hall.

Prior to the regular board meeting, the board held a special meeting at 5 p.m. to discuss the coming educational enrichment levy. The current levy (formerly called the maintenance and operations levy) is $715,000 per year and will expire in 2018. Recent legislation will impact the amount that schools can collect per assessed valuation, so it is expected that the replacement levy, if approved by the voters, will be significantly lower than in years past.

Superintendent Nelson reported that two students had received athletic commendations: Holly Disch as WIAA volleyball player of the week and Donny Edwards in earning a spot on the 1B/2B all-state baseball team.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting is November 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the middle school commons.
