The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team split games this week and improved their record to 5-2 in league and 8-3 overall.

They faced Adna at home on Thursday and beat the Lady Pirates in three sets, 25-21, 25-12, and 25-17.

"This was a growth night for us," Coach Kayli Hurley said. "I saw some things in my girls that tells me they're starting to really put it together."

Macie Elliott had 11 kills, and a 2.2 serve receive average. "She played great defense," Hurley said. "Mckensi Fluckiger had some killer digs as well."

MJ Neves had seven aces and 10 assists. Grayci Thomas had 17 assists and "covered her defense area well."

On Tuesday, the team traveled to Mossyrock and lost in three sets, 11-25, 13-25, and 15-25.

"We struggled with our efficiency tonight," Hurley said, "but it wasn't for a lack of effort. My girls worked hard; they just couldn't find a way to make it click. Against a strong team like Mossy, that doesn't bode well."

Hurley praised Charlie Ashe for her work in the front row, and Neves and Thomas for their setting, despite some inconsistent passing.

It's varsity only tonight (Thursday) against Kalama, beginning at 7 p.m.
