Grace Peacock, a 2016 Wahkiakum grad, was recently selected to a college level soccer all-star team, and she did it without having the opportunity to play in high school.

Grace Peacock, who graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 2016, was recently named to the Northwest Athletic Conference Soccer All Star Team.

Not bad for a young woman who didn't get to play the sport in high school.

Peacock played for the Lower Columbia College Red Devils for the last two years. She was listed as a defender/midfielder on their website, but Coach Harlan Cruser said they used her everywhere on the field.

"Grace is a natural athlete," Cruser said. "She hadn't played a lot of soccer, but that wasn't a problem. She has a lot of speed and was a real hard worker. She pushed hard and was always asking how to get better. She was easy to coach, and she came a long way in a fairly short time."

"We used her primarily as defense," Cruser said. "She chased down the offense on the other team and made them miserable. She was a fun, eager kid to have around."
