The Wahkiakum Mules baseball team split games this week to start the season.

On Saturday in Longview, they lost 4-2 to R.A. Long.

"It was a great first game and fantastic weather," Coach Marc Niemeyer said. "We hit the ball hard, just right at people. We need to clean up some defensive things but it was a good outing."

Senior Terris Record had a huge game for the Mules on Monday, including hitting a three-run home run in the sixth inning.

Zach Brown hit a triple. Luke Brown had a double and Terris Record hit a double and drove in a run.

Starting pitcher James Anderson took the loss. He pitched two innings, struck out three and allowed one run. Record followed, pitching three innings, striking out two and allowing three runs. Zach Brown pitched the final two innings and struck out two batters.

On Monday, the team traveled to Menlo and beat Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 3-0.

"PWV played flawless defense," Coach Niemeyer said. "We couldn't find a rhythm offensively."

Pitchers James Anderson, Zach Brown, and Terris Record combined for a shutout no hitter.

Record hit a three run homer to put the Mules on the scoreboard. Tristan Collupy hit a double.

The Mules host Morton/White Pass on Friday at 4 p.m.
