The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on March 20 in Middle School Commons.

In personnel matters, the board acknowledged the resignation of Robert Dalton, middle school track coach. The board approved the hire of David Blaylock and Ryley Queener as middle school track coaches.

The board conducted a first read on policies regarding the Learning Assistance Program, Title I and Contracts. These were discussion items only, and if no concerns exist, they will be brought to the next board meeting for approval.

In other items of business, a donation of athletic equipment from Tim and Amber Haataia was approved by the board. The Highly Capable Plan for 2018 was also approved.

Youth Camp Principal Gary Flood updated the board on progress his students had made in passing both the GED and reaching the milestone for graduation.

In his report, K-12 Principal Quinn Donlon, shared a variety of updates. The Knowledge Bowl team, Monte and the Pythons, earned a seventh place finish at the recent State tournament in Arlington. Donlon said that he had recently attended a STEM training in Leavenworth. The Comet Career Fair will be held on March 21 with over 70 college and career representatives on site to meet with students and discuss the type of work they do along with job prospects and benefits.

Finally, Donlon presented a plaque to boys’ basketball coach Brian Macy who had been recognized as the Columbia Valley League Coach of the Year.

The next board meeting will be April 17 at the Grays River Fire Hall, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
