N/GRV School Board Notes

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on April 17 at the Grays River Fire Hall.

In personnel matters, the board approved the hire of Zara Ahlers, Youth Camp School Secretary, and acknowledged the resignation of Cheri Brignone, High School Secretary, effective August 2018.

The board adopted policies regarding the Learning Assistance Program, Title I and Contracts.

In other items of business, the school calendar was approved for the 2018-19 school year, along with overnight activities for spring programs. The board approved the surplus of a school car and bus. Additionally, the board passed a resolution approving the sale of .44 acres, commonly known as the VFW Hall Property.

In his report, K-12 Principal Quinn Donlon updated the board on the success of the recent school play, Usher: A Totally Teen Comedy. He also thanked the many participants who recently gave their time to the Comet Career Fair. Many presenters were past Naselle graduates who shared their work experiences and chosen career fields.


Superintendent Nelson provided an overview for the board on the many legislative changes that will affect contract negotiations and school staffing allocations moving forward.

Board member Amy Chadwick shared information on some recent workshops she had attended, sharing the work that the Washington State School Directors’ Association is undertaking in efforts to address changes in recent legislation regarding school financing. She also made comment on a recent Title I school event that was well attended.


The next board meeting will be on May 15 in the Middle School Commons, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
