To The Eagle:

I read the list of candidates, hoping to get elected to various positions in our county. Sadly I saw no one willing to become commissioner of the Grays River Habitat Enhancement District. We lost Bill Karwoski, so do not have the three needed commissioners. Eddie Blain volunteered to be a fill in until someone stepped up; that was two years ago. In reality we need two new commissioners.

I have been commissioner for 12-plus years and would love to hand over the reins to someone younger and healthier. I was a ‘fill-in’ as well. If the people in the Grays River Valley want a functioning dike and flood control district, someone needs to come join the district.

The job is not time consuming, only meet once a month at Johnson Park, usually one half hour or so. Occasionally, as the last two, there have been meetings on river problems which took up an hour. We have different entities willing to help at this time, but that will only happen if we have community participation.

Often there seems only to be interest shown when there is a problem, on personal needs, even then seems to be difficult to have the problem brought to a meeting.

Meetings are held second Wednesday of the month, at 5:15 in the afternoon at Johnson Park, old Rosburg School. Next meeting is June 13, 5:15, Johnson Park. Surprise me with someone willing to help out.
