James R. Miller

James R. Miller, AKA Jim JR and Jimmy depending on the relationship with him, died May 25, 2018 as a result of congestive heart failure. He was 86 years old.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda, his daughters Lisa Fisher (Randy), Shelley Seidenverg (Mark) and sons Michael (Cheryl) and Stephen (Cindy) along with several grand- and great-grandchildren.

Jim graduated from Clover Park High School only to be drafted into the Korean War by the U.S. Marine Corps that summer. Fortunately he was posted to the Marine band after boot camp. Using his GI bill and working for Weyerhaeuser he earned his B.A. in business from the College of Puget Sound in 1956. Most of his working life was in banking with Seattle First National Bank, now the Bank of America. Jim was an athlete known for his prowess in handball and racquetball while living in Seattle and Olympia.

In retirement he became a “snowbird” traveling from Cathlamet, WA to Outdoor Resort Palm Springs each fall. His trumpet was dusted off, his lip returned, and he played in two bands in Astoria, OR as well as forming a combo in the Palm Springs area. He was an avid birder; his life list was over 600 species. His love for golf prompted him to learn clubmaking and re-gripping. Jim the Gripper kept quite busy! Going on the annual “summer golf tour” around the Northwest was a favorite RV outing.

Jim’s jokes and friendly personality will be missed by all who knew him.
