The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on June 19 in the Middle School Commons.

In personnel matters, the board approved Youth Camp summer school teaching contracts for Scott Smith, David Blaylock, Randall Bloom and Natalie Heppner. The board also approved the hire of teacher Qin Xia. Non-represented staff and individual teacher contracts were approved for the 2018-19 school year.

The board acknowledged the resignations of bus drivers George Garcia and Amber Haataia, and teacher David Blaylock.

An evaluation of the Superintendent was conducted in executive session.

The board also approved a contract with Dr. Roof for a re-roofing project. The purchase of

security cameras, monitors and computers for Naselle Youth Camp School was authorized.

Contracts with ESD112 for student services were approved for the next school year. In final matters of business, the board approved a contract for district legal services.

A first read on WSSDA policies 2022 and 2023 regarding digital citizenship and the use of electronic resources was conducted.

Counselor Justin Laine and Principal Quinn Donlon provided an overview of recent student state-wide assessments and praised recent graduate Samanta Monroy for being the first student of the district to graduate with the Seal of Bi-literacy. Monroy was this year’s valedictorian.

Donlon praised several coaches and athletes for their performances at State. Rebekah Wirkkala and Randy Lindstrom were recognized for being selected as softball and baseball league coaches of the year.

Superintendent Lisa Nelson provided an overview of the current financial status of the district as well as student enrollment counts.

The district's K-12 schools started the school year with 337 pupils enrolled and ended with 328. The district's online Columbia Valley Academy had 21 students at the start and end of the year. The Naselle Youth Camp had 81 students at the start of the year and 84 at the end.

The next regular board meeting will be July 17 in the Middle School Commons beginning at 6:30 p.m. On the same night, a hearing for the budget will be held at 5 p.m.
