Wahkiakum County election officers certified final primary election results last week.

In the race for county assessor, Brian McClain leads incumbent Bill Coons 1,021-814. Both ran as Independents.

In the race for US Congress, District 3, incumbent Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler tallied 949 votes. Her nearest challenger is Democrat Carolyn Long with 531 votes. Others seeking the position were Democrat David McDevitt 132, Republican Michael Cortney 88, Republican Earl Bowerman 75, Democrat Dorothy Gasqué 46, and Democrat Martin Hash 14.

District wide, Herrera Beutler had 42.07 percent of the vote, Long 35.26 percent, McDevitt 8.01 percent, Bowerman 5.5 percent, Gasqué 4.87 percent, Cortney 3.37 percent, and Hash 0.91 percent.

In Washington’s top two primary election system, the two candidates with the highest vote totals advance to the general election.

Legislative District 19, Position 1—Democrat Erin Frasier 788, incumbent Republican Jim Walsh 1,034; Walsh leads district wide 50.19 percent to 49.81 percent for Frasier.

Leg. Dist. 19, Position 2—incumbent Democrat Brian Blake 974, Cathlamet Republican Joel McEntire 569, and Republican David Parsons 260. District wide, Blake tallied 58.31 percent of the vote, McEntire 21.79 percent and Parsons 19.91 percent.

County auditor—Incumbent Independent Nicci Bergseng 1,127 votes, Independent Matt Kuhl 684.

County clerk—Democrat incumbent Kay Holland 1,485 votes.

County commissioner, District 3 votes only—incumbent Democrat Blair Brady 309. Former county sheriff Gene Strong is mounting a write-in campaign and drew 61 votes.

Prosecuting attorney—incumbent Democrat Dan Bigelow 1,180, independent Stewart Feil 685.

County sheriff—incumbent Independent Mark Howie 1,220, Republican Graham Phalen 677.

County treasurer—incumbent Democrat Tammy Peterson 1,463.

US Senate—incumbent Democrat Maria Cantwell 772, Republican Susan Hutchinson, her only challenger in triple digits in the county, 423. Statewide, Cantwell tallied 54.68 percent of the vote, Hutchinson 24.3 percent, the only other double-digit percentage.

Voter turnout was 63.19 percent, third highest in the state after Garfield, 69.01, and Columbia 65.76.

Voter turnout was 56.21 percent.
