Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 20 — 11:01 a.m. A grenade was found in a Skamokawa home. Deputies took possession of the device, which appeared to be a training grenade, possibly with a live fuse. State patrol was notified and en route. 11:29 a.m. A dog was attempting to prey on ducks belonging to a Puget Island resident. The resident believed it was a neighbor’s dog, but the neighbor denied it. 11:34 a.m. A Cape Horn resident said that a neighbor’s dog made regular, unwanted visits to her deck, and that the dog had become aggressive on the last occasion. She didn’t want law enforcement to become involved, but asked to have the incident documented. 11:52 a.m. A box containing utility bills, syringes, and medication were found at a park in Cathlamet. 12:55 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who was unresponsive, and hiccuping chocolate. 3:02 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had hurt her knee during a fall. 3:06 p.m. A caller found evidence that someone had been riding a quad on the refuge near Skamokawa. 5:45 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 6:42 p.m. A caller reported that three children had been riding a motorcycle without helmets up and down a Puget Island road. 7:20 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident. A deputy and a representative from the mental health department responded and found a door open, but no one home.

August 21 — 9:17 a.m. A caller reported several speeding vehicles on a Cathlamet street. 10:56 a.m. A disturbance was reported at a Cathlamet residence. 12:58 p.m. A Cowlitz County resident reported that she had not heard from her father, who lived in Cathlamet, for three days. The last time she spoke with him, he sounded odd. When law enforcement performed a welfare check they found his home empty, with the door open and loud music playing. The daughter said bank records showed that he had made a cash withdrawal in Oregon City. She was advised that she could report a missing person to any jurisdiction and she decided to report it to her local law enforcement office. 2:19 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a clinic patient who may have suffered a heart attack. 7:08 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported hearing screaming at a neighbor’s home. An individual was taken into custody. 11:09 p.m. A Deep River resident said that an unknown caller had threatened him. The resident believed the threat may have been in response to a recent event when he had been in Astoria with friends. One of them flipped off another driver for tailgating and honking his horn. The individual who threatened the Deep River resident said that he had gotten his phone number after looking up his license plate number. The deputy asked the resident to call if he received more threats.

August 22 — 7:47 a.m. A caller reported that a kid had flipped him off when he was asked not to walk between houses in the Glen Gate area. 8:18 a.m. A juvenile was taken into custody in Rosedale after being seen looking in garages. 1:45 p.m. A Cowlitz County resident said his new truck had ben sprayed by the Washington State Department of Transportation. He was advised to contact his insurance and the WSDOT. 4:21 p.m. A woman was trespassed from an Elochoman Valley property after appearing there, agitated and aggressive. 5:09 p.m. A motorist reported an erratic driver in a Jeep Liberty on SR 4 near County Line Park. 7:56 p.m. A homeowner asked deputies to keep an eye on his home while he was out of town.

August 23 — 6:07 a.m. An individual asked the sheriff’s office to enforce parking at the Oneida Boat Launch, complaining that he could not access the road. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. 10:49 a.m. An erratic driver in a blue Ford Ranger was seen headed west on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. 2:24 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of chest pain.

August 24 — 4:49 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had injured himself during a recent fall. 9:12 p.m. A disturbance was reported at an Elochoman Valley address. 12:11 p.m. A caller reported a lot of speeding vehicles traveling on a Cathlamet street. 1:19 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a Puget Island resident to the hospital. 2:19 p.m. Not for the first time, a bull had gotten into a cow’s pasture and was mating with the cows. The responsible party said he was fixing fences when he was contacted. 5:58 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Elochoman Valley resident. 8:03 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident who seemed unstable and confused. 11:16 p.m. The Grays River Fire Department responded to the report of smoke in the Grays River area. 11:49 p.m. A Cathlamet resident who had been awake for 48 hours asked for assistance when he thought he might be hearing things.

August 25 — 2:30 a.m. An individual was taken into custody after an intoxicated man showed up at Vista Park and got into a fight with his girlfriend. 9:51 a.m. A calf was found on a Puget Island road. The owner was notified. 3:11 p.m. Deputies were asked to be on the lookout for a man in a Dodge pickup who had left his home in Cowlitz County after shoving his wife to the ground and firing several rounds with his gun. He still had the gun in his possession. 3:41 p.m. A deputy, state patrol, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a motorcycle accident just west of County Line Park. The rider was able to walk and talk, but seemed stiff. 3:52 p.m. A man riding his bicycle complained about two aggressive dogs on Ostervold Road. 5:00 p.m. Squatters were seen at an east county home. 6:01 p.m. An individual was taken into custody after a domestic disturbance at a Grays River home. 6:35 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual complaining of dizziness and hallucinations, possibly complications due to diabetes. 9:30 p.m. Two people were trespassed from a Skamokawa address. They had returned despite being evicted earlier in the month.

August 26 — 1:43 p.m. A caller reported that someone was trespassing on property on KM. 3:32 p.m. An erratic driver was reported on a Puget Island road. 3:37 p.m. A driver was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign. 4:12 p.m. A Rosburg resident asked if there was military training going on in the area after hearing what he believed to be the sound of planes and gunfire. He was advised to contact the military. 4:17 p.m. An erratic driver was reported on SR 4 near Flandersville. 7:42 p.m. A caller reported that she had found a note on her vehicle parked at her east county home. The writer said that they had “finally found her” and commented on her skill as a driver. She was concerned that someone was stalking her and said that she was armed and prepared to protect herself and her property. A deputy responded. 8:35 p.m. A man was asked to leave a Skamokawa home. A second call came in with the report that he had left. 10:11 p.m. Deputies responded when a truck flipped over on SR 4 near Flandersville. There were no injuries reported, and an individual was taken into custody. 10:22 p.m. A suspicious vehicle was reported on the ferry. 11:49 p.m. The Puget Island Fire Department responded to the report that a power outage was affecting the entire island. The PUD was notified and restored power.
