Down River Dispatches

August 30, 2018

I don’t know about anyone else in this neck of the woods, but I’m almost ready to do a rain dance. Everything is just parched and my rain gauge has recorded only .82 inches of rain since June.

The Grays River Habitat Enhancement District meets each month on the second Wednesday of the month in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park at 5:15 p.m. The volunteer commissioners would like to invite landowners to attend the meetings, give them some input and if you have questions please bring them forward.

Don’t forget that you can purchase fresh baked goods and locally grown produce at the Grays River Grange #124 for very reasonable prices. They are open on Tuesdays from 2-6 p.m.

Happy Birthday to the following: Hannah Haataia, Lisa Colombo, Alex Bennett, Kristen Gross, Hans Varila and Tom Zimmerman. Wishing each of you a perfect day.

Happy Anniversary to Brent and Sheila Kragerud, Kayse and Maria Rogers and Joe and Jeannine Helvey.

I had a lovely call from one of our Eagle readers in Seattle last week, Joanne Morrison. In that conversation, she asked how my brother was doing since he came here from Minnesota, and I told her he is doing great and loves it here. She then informed me that I had made a mistake in my column dated August 16. Her nephew and niece had an anniversary that week and I had spelled their name wrong. So, my apologies to Bill and Krista Bocker and I hope they had an amazing, special day. And I thank Mrs. Morrison not only for pointing out my mistake, and also for reading our little hometown paper.

Labor Day in the United States is a federal holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws and well-being of the country. It is also celebrated as the last weekend of summer by many in the United States. That said, I hope everyone has a safe and sane weekend, full of family fun.
