Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

September 10 — 8:58 a.m. A driver backed over a telephone box in Cathlamet. 10:33 a.m. A resident on Little Island reported that two dogs had come onto his property that morning and were barking at him. He also said he had seen the same two dogs chasing joggers. The deputy contacted a possible owner, who said that his dogs had been with him all morning. 12:10 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a scam involving a fraudulent check. 2:41 p.m. A restraining order was allegedly violated by a Skamokawa resident who expressed irritation over a neighbor’s use of an easement on his property. 2:59 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to an Elochoman Valley home after a caller reported that an individual was having mental health or drug induced issues, and the individual complained of pain in her feet and joints. 3:24 p.m. An arrow was found stuck in the ground about 10 feet behind a vehicle parked at an Elochoman Valley home. 4:05 p.m. The county road department was notified after a deceased deer was found on the side of an Elochoman Valley road.

September 11 — 10:44 a.m. A dog was found at an east county home. 12:12 p.m. A motorist called for a tow truck after driving into a ditch on SR 4 on Abe Creek Hill. 12:48 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Rosedale home where a resident was complaining of dizziness. The individual refused transport, and found another way to the hospital. 12:57 p.m. A caller reported that a tree had come down on Covered Bridge Road in Grays River. 1:35 p.m. A loose dog was found in Rosedale. The owner was located. 3:49 p.m. An individual was detained after a caller reported a disorderly person in a vehicle in Cathlamet. 5:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having seizures. 6:01 p.m. A reckless driver was reported to be speeding and passing vehicles in no passing zones on SR 4 near County Line Park. 7:20 p.m. A caller reported that a possible drunk driver had taken a corner too fast on SR 4 and went off the road in the Alger Creek area. 8:04 p.m. A hunter reported that a firearm had either been stolen or lost after hunting a couple nights earlier. She believed there was a possibility that the weapon had been left on the tailgate when they drove away. 9:20 p.m. A caller asked for a welfare check on a Rosedale resident.

September 12 — 4:32 a.m. Someone staying at Vista Park reported a theft, but would not provide an exact location and hung up during the phone call. A deputy went to the park but was unable to find the caller. 6:59 a.m. A cow was loose on an Elochoman Valley road. 5:46 p.m. A caller reported a large rock on SR 4 near County Line Park. 5:53 p.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 near County Line Park. State patrol responded. 9:14 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with low blood pressure.

September 13 — 10:28 a.m. A caller said that someone on Facebook was reporting that people were stealing apples from trees.10:39 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosburg resident. It turned out that the individual was out of town. 5:27 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that a neighbor had yelled at her daughter and threatened to pepper spray her dog. 9:18 p.m. A fire truck struck an elk on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area and the animal needed to be dispatched.

September 14 — 2:35 a.m. A deputy was asked to come to a home on East Valley Road in Skamokawa. 1:29 p.m. A caller reported that some items had been stolen at Vista Park. 6:11 p.m. A caller reported that an unwanted individual had shown up at a Puget Island home. A mental health representative asked for assistance from the sheriff’s office and an individual was taken into custody for involuntary treatment. 6:16 p.m. A hunter allegedly threatened a property owner in Deep River.

September 15 — 9:08 a.m. Property was damaged when marijuana plants were stolen from a Puget Island home. 11:00 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident. 11:21 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident. 12:56 p.m. Batteries were stolen from a boat parked in the rock pit at the marina in Cathlamet. 5:51 p.m. A caller reported that a couple vehicles appeared to have been abandoned in the Rosburg area. 6:34 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident complaining of weakness and respiratory issues. 6:46 p.m. A caller reported that a man was passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked on Puget Island near the bridge. The caller then said the man was awake and driving towards Cathlamet and that he appeared to be stoned.

September 16 — 5:41 a.m. Three calls came in regarding a vehicle parked in the eastbound lane of Columbia Street near Erickson Park. A tow was called. 2:29 p.m. An alarm was activated at a home in Deep River. A neighbor said the home was vacant and the person watching the house had deactivated the alarm. A deputy agreed to do a security check. 3:59 p.m. A dog was lost in the Rosburg area. 10:12 p.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to be on the lookout for a dangerous and possibly armed individual. He was taken into custody in Cowlitz County.

September 17 — 4:26 a.m. An alarm was activated at an Alger Creek residence. A deputy found everything secure.
