Showtimes for the latest production by PAPA (Peninsula Association for Performing Arts) “Enchanted April” are this weekend, October 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. and October 7 at 2 p.m. and next weekend October 12 and 13 at 7 p.m. and October 14 at 2 p.m. in the Columbia Theater in Chinook. Bring the family.

If you have your tickets for the 11th Annual Covered Bridge Dinner which will take place on Saturday, the 6th at 4:30 p.m., you are in for a real treat. If you have not purchased them, it is too late as they are sold out. This unique dinner and its location inside the Grays River Covered Bridge is a yearly fundraiser for the Wahkiakum County Extension and 4-H programs.

Just a reminder, parking is very limited so if you can carpool with someone, you are encouraged to do so. You will be treated to violin music by Jeffrey Reynolds through the evening, as well as some poetry readings and an auction of handcrafted items with proceeds benefitting Wahkiakum 4-H.

The delicious meal is made up of locally grown veggies and fruit as well as fresh caught salmon. This event is a real treat for everyone involved. Hope to see many of you there.

The Grays River Grange #124 will host a Candidate’s Forum on Tuesday at 6 p.m., in the Grange Hall on SR 4 in Grays River. This is your chance to speak with and ask questions of our local and state candidates running in the upcoming election.

Your right to vote is a privilege that every American should take advantage of. It doesn’t matter which side of the political road you are on, if you want to have a say in how things turn out, you must cast your ballot. I am proud to say that I have voted in every election since I was 18 and registered to vote. We are all Americans and I think everyone should take this opportunity to make their selection on voting day in November. Make up your own mind and just vote!

Looking forward to a visit with my nephew from Yucca Valley, Calif., and my son and his wife from Bend, Ore., this weekend to attend the Covered Bridge Dinner and to place my new water storage tank. The rain we have been getting is very welcome in light of the lack of it all summer, at least in my world.
