Cross Country

The only John C. Thomas Middle School student competing in cross country this year got a win as Wahkiakum runners competed in two events this week.

Last Thursday, eighth grader Kaiden Ray took first place in the 1.5 mile JW Black Lake XC race for junior high boys. He was one of 18 runners from three schools and he clocked in at 10:45 for the winning time.

Leif Carroll took 15th place in a field of 38 runners from five schools with a time of 23:08 in the high school boy’s 5,000 meter race. Levi Hauff finished with a time of 25:51 and took 25th place.

For the girls, Kimberlee Watkins took 21st place in a field of 25 runners from five schools with a time of 34:25 in the high school girl’s 5,000 meter race. Her twin sister, Alexzandria, wasn’t far behind, taking 22nd place with a time of 34:35.

On Tuesday, the team traveled to Mossyrock for a Central 2B League meet.


Ray joined six other runners in the 1.5 mile middle school boy’s race. He took seventh place with a time of 10:55.

Jamil Dimaano finished the 5,000 meter high school boy’s race in 16th place in a field of 31 with a time of 21:15. Carroll took 18th place with a time of 21:42, and Hauff finished the race in 24:13 for 26th place.

Alexzandria Watkins kept familial competition alive and came in ahead of her sister in Thursday’s 5,000 meter race. She took 21st place with a time of 32:22 and Kimberlee finished in 23rd place with a time of 33:57.

Cross Country continues October 18 with the Central 2B League Championships in Rainier.
