Westend writer offers comments on election

To The Eagle:

Thank you, Eagle, for covering our local races! I have not seen anything (may have missed it), on Senate and congressional races. Jaimie Herrera Beutler proudly announces that she voted for the tax cut for the rich and corporations, while also voting for the huge spending bill. She’s proud of helping raise the deficit 17 percent, in just one year. That alone should get her voted out! My third grade math told me that cutting revenue while increasing spending, will lead to a negative outcome! Vote Carolyn Long, to help put checks and balances in order.

Where did the Tea Party and conservative Republicans with family values go? Did they all jump onto the Trump train, having a beer celebrating with Kavanaugh? Trump proudly said bankruptcy is a good thing; is he taking the country there?

While I’m here, I’d like to give a shout out to our Island crier, who has posted three times since I have. He pooh-pooed me for saying the market has basically flat-lined since Trump started the trade war with tariffs. Well, in January we had a high of 26,616; as I am writing, the Dow is at 25,444; now as I send, 25,313. That’s not even flat, that’s down and bouncing. We’ll see how it will be when Iran’s oil is cut off?

Trump is now targeting the LGBT people he promised to protect. He’s once again standing up for another strong-man, in fact encouraged a journalist killing, by his assertion that the news is the enemy. Instead of helping Central America become livable, for people to stay, he is threatening, to make it worse by cutting off aid.

As for local races, I’m recommending: Bergseng, Bigelow, Blake, Brady, Coons, Howie; Long for Congress and retain Maria Cantwell. Another additional note, Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell announced that to cut the deficit they created, they will now act to cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid! So much for those promises. Perhaps that was the plan all along, a big deficit to make it palatable for us to accept that? Not able to swallow that!
