The Naselle Volleyball team begins it’s quest for a State title (today) Thursday in Yakima vs. Selkirk at 11:45 a.m. and a second game at 6:45 p.m. Girls, you have played amazing games this year. Keep it coming and bring home the title. Go Comettes!

On Friday, the football team will meet in Naselle with Taholah at 7 p.m. for a state playoff game. Go Comets!

More sports on this week's calendar: Tuesday, middle school girls basketball at Pe Ell at 5:45 p.m .; Wednesday, middle school girls basketball with Willapa Valley in Naselle at 5:45 p.m. Go team!!

On Friday, a veteran’s assembly will be held honoring some of our local veterans, at the Naselle-Grays River Valley School at 12:30 p.m. This program is always an honor for veterans to be recognized for their service to our country.

Wednesday is the beginning of Fall parent/teacher conferences so students will be released early on the 14th, 15th and 16th.

There will be no school on Monday in honor of Veteran’s Day.

Here’s your chance to give someone the gift of life. If you haven’t made an appointment to give blood today at the Valley Bible Church, don’t worry, they take drop-ins as well. It only takes a few minutes out of your day to make a huge difference in someone else’s life. The drive is open today from noon to 6 p.m.

This weekend is all about veterans and all they have done and will continue doing to keep our country free. Our local schools commemorate these heroes with assemblies in their honor. We owe these brave souls our thanks for their sacrifices in keeping our country free.

On Saturday, the American Legion Deep River Post #111 will hold its annual pancake breakfast to honor our local veterans, and all men and women in uniform. I will personally be inviting three important vets in my family to join my sister and me for breakfast, my uncle David Hammonds, my brother David Lynch and my son Shane Cruz.

Bring the whole family and enjoy a delicious meal in support of our military men and women. The event will be held in the Rosburg Community Hall on Saturday 8-11:30 a.m.

All you can eat pancakes, with sides of ham or sausage, eggs cooked to your liking, coffee, milk and orange juice. All this for only $6 for adults and teens and $4 for children 3 years to 12 years old.

This annual event supports our local vets, the community and youth groups. I can’t think of a better way to spend this Saturday morning.

The Wahkiakum County Fair Foundation will hold its annual holiday wreath, swag and centerpiece sale over the next few weeks. The dates and locations where they will be available are as follows: November 10 at the Fairgrounds Flea Market; November 16 during Fair Board Bingo at the Fairgrounds; November 17 at the St. James Holiday Bazaar; November 24 at the Cathlamet Tree Lighting Ceremony, Hotel Cathlamet; December 1 at the fair bazaar on the fairgrounds, and December 8 at the Fairgrounds flea market.

The foundation will also be doing a Decorated Christmas Tree Auction during the November and December Flea Markets and Fair Bingo. Come and check out the trees, find a special gift for someone you care about or a treat for yourself. Bake sales will also take place during the November and December flea markets.

I admire this group's tenacity for fundraising. They have done wonders in bringing new events to our little county, especially the bull riding competition. Keep up the good work.

One more mention about the Rosburg Store. You can friend them on FaceBook and see all the deliciousness available on their menus. These folks are really making an effort to become a go to place in our community.

Even the grocery shelves are stocked with items that we would ordinarily have to go extra miles to purchase. Stop in and give them a welcome to the community.

And by the way, the regular burgers and the chicken strips are to die for. French fries are amazingly different.
