On November 11, 2018, Lenore Madeline Sorenson died peacefully surrounded by family. Lenore was born to Theodore and Litta (Knifong) Swanson on May 10, 1918, in Rosburg, Washington with five sisters and two brothers.

She was part of a musical family and she loved to sing and play piano with her sisters while her dad played the fiddle. Later in life she sang with a local quartet of friends.

In her early years, Lenore and her sisters rowed a boat up Seal River to attend grade school. She graduated from Naselle High School in 1936. She married George Edwin (Ed) Sorenson on October 17, 1937 and raised a wonderful family of three sons and a daughter on a dairy farm in Grays River, Washington.

Lenore was an excellent baker and received an award for her rye bread at the state Grange. She was a member of the Grays River Grange for over 80 years and served as its secretary for many years. Her hospitality was well known in the valley and the local boys loved to help out during hay season because of her wonderful meals.

In retirement, Lenore and Ed wintered in Yuma, Arizona, for many years. In 1987, Lenore and Ed moved to Vancouver, Washington to be near family. Lenore kept active playing cards and helping with social events in their Columbia North neighborhood. After Ed's passing in 1990, Lenore remained in their home, surrounded by friends.

In November of 2011, Lenore decided to move to Canterbury Inn Assisted Living in Longview, again making friends and playing her favorite Rummy Kubes, Bingo and card games.

This May, she celebrated her 100th birthday in their social room with over 80 family members and friends attending. It was a memorable occasion.

Lenore was preceded in death by all of her sisters and one brother. She is survived by her sons, Stan (Darlene), Darrell (Sonja), Merle (Bettie) and daughter Nora (Marshall), nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, her brother Ted Swanson and numerous nieces and nephews. They miss her everyday.

A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, at the Rosburg Hall in Rosburg, Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grays River Grange Cemetery Fund or Longview Hospice. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
