The Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team started their season with a loss on the road to Winlock, 47-41.

“They played really well but came up a little short,” Coach Todd Souvenir said. “We cut the score to two with under a minute when Jake (Leitz) hit a big three. We followed with a stop but couldn’t get a bucket to extend the game.”

Leitz led Mule scorers with 10 points. Brody Carlson added nine points and six rebounds. K.C. Beery scored eight points. Isaac Moon had eight rebounds, Quentin Nelson pulled down six boards, and Logan LaBerge had four assists.

“I’m really proud of the energy the boys played with on both ends of the floor,” Souvenir said. “Overall a good first game, especially playing short handed. The young guys took advantage of the opportunity and really played well.”

Bryce Cline and Coleson Richendollar combined for 37 points to lead the Cardinals.

The Mules host Seton Catholic in their first home game on Saturday, December 1. JV plays at 5:45 and varsity game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
