Brody Carlson is a menace from the three point line, but he can score from inside too. He scored 15 of his 22 points in the first quarter, and had nine rebounds, five assists, and four steals in the Mules win against Mossyrock.

Things are looking up for the Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team, who followed a tough loss with two wins this week.

Last Thursday at home, the Mules played catch up with Morton/White Pass and watched it all fall apart when the Timberwolves Kaleb Rashoff hit a last second shot from three point range to win the game.

"That was a tough loss," Coach Todd Souvenir said. "We really struggled to score in the first half and dug a hole that we just couldn't quite climb out of. I was really proud of the guys for regrouping and getting themselves back in the game."

Luke Brown and Logan LaBerge led the team with 10 points apiece. Brody Carlson had nine points, nine rebounds and four steals, K.C. Beery scored seven points and pulled down seven boards. Isaac Moon had four points, Jake Leitz and Quentin Nelson contributed two apiece, and Evan Quigley had one.

On Saturday, they traveled to Rainier and won their first game of the season, 54-41.

"It was a nice win for the team," Coach Souvenir said. "I was pleased with our ball movement and willingness to make the extra pass which led to a little better shooting percentage and a season high for assists as a team."

Nelson led scorers with 16 points and seven rebounds. K.C. Beery had 13 points. Brown and LaBerge added seven apiece. Moon scored six points and Leitz finished the game with five.

The Mules crushed the Vikings 82-22 when Mossyrock came to town on Tuesday.

There were two minutes left in the first quarter and Wahkiakum had 22 points on the board when a Viking finally scored, making it 22-3. Brody Carlson responded, hitting two threes in a row, and so did Evan Quigley, hitting one of his own.

The Mules pulled ahead 51-10 at the half and never looked back.

"It was a good win that will give us a little confidence and momentum as we head into league," Coach Souvenir said. "I thought offensively we moved the ball well and made the extra pass which led to easy buckets and open shots on the perimeter. Quentin's (Nelson) energy really got us going and then Brody (Carlson) got hot scoring 15 of his 22 points in the first quarter."

Carlson led the team with 22 points, nine boards, five assists, and four steals. Nelson scored 17 points, Brown had 14, and Beery added nine points and six boards. Leitz had six points and six boards. LaBerge scored four points. Moon had three points and six rebounds. Quigley contributed three points. Brodie Avalon and Dominic Curl finished the game with two points each.
