The Wahkiakum County Eagle - Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891

Although I will endeavor to bring to you the public all the events and happenings in the area, however, please note that much of what is eventful is hidden in plain sight. Sometimes we take for granted the beautiful area we live in. Just a reminder to all my new friends in the county to take a deep breath and enjoy the view.

Rosburg News:

Do not forget that on Wednesdays the Naselle/Rosburg--Grays River Seniors Club will meet at the Rosburg Community Hall at Noon. Thursdays at noon there will be a Senior Citizen Luncheon at the Rosburg Community Hall, 28 Rosburg Hall Rd, Rosburg. Phone: (360) 465--2691.

The Rosburg Store has turned out to be a local gathering place for the community. Many still have no idea about this little oasis in the county and that they serve great food. This week’s special will continue to be their very successful Chicken Fettucine Alfredo for $13.95. Wahkiakum on the Move makes stops at the store. Call for times.

Denise Blanchard would like to thank everyone in the Grays River Valley for the support she has had as president of the Grays River Valley Community Center board for the last two and a half years. It was a very good experience for her and she met a lot of very wonderful people. She decided several weeks ago, to go for the treasurer position on the board. The halls of this old school building will be painted and have a brand new look, also the name plaques for the name of that room will be finished soon, and be put on each door after they get painted.

The new board is as follows: Shonda Ware – President; CeCe Ranglin -- Vice President; Denise Blanchard – Treasurer; Toni Fest -- Event Co--Coordinator; and Tim Steenerson – Member.

The West End Food Pantry, located in the Grays River Valley Center (GRVC) at Johnson Park is in need of volunteers to help out on Thursdays 1--5 p.m. Drop off your donation at the Pantry on Thursdays. Your tax deductible cash/check donations can be mailed to PO Box 55, Rosburg, WA 98643 and you will receive a receipt in the mail or call Shonda Ware at 360--465--2344.

On Saturdays from 11 a.m.--4 p.m. the Community Library & Computer Center in the GRVC at Johnson Park will be open to the public.

Appelo Archives Center

The Appelo Archives is located at 1056 State Route 4 Naselle. Go by and take a look at the history of the area. You will not be disappointed. Board meetings are usually held on the third Friday of each month at noon. It is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend. The preservation of the local history is important. Help by preserving our history and donate your time or money to keep this museum open. They would like to thank the public for their help, however they still need help. Volunteers are needed to help maintain the facility so future residents can have an idea of what life was like in the area. They are now selling Christmas trees for $40. Naselle News

The Naselle Timberland Library is located at 4 Parpala Rd., Naselle. Their hours: Saturday, 11 a.m. –4 p.m .; Sunday, Monday, and Thursday Closed; Tuesday and Wednesday 11 a.m. –8 p.m. ; and Friday 11 a.m. –5 p.m. On Tuesday, December 18 at 6 p.m., come and enjoy some popcorn while you watch popular releases! Movies may be PG--13 rated and suitable for teen or adult audiences. Check with the library for this week's title. I will endeavor to find out in advance what movies are being played so the viewers will have an incentive to attend. Popcorn provided courtesy of the Friends of the Naselle Timberland Library.

On Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., the Naselle Timberland Library will make cocoa mix in a gift jar as a perfect holiday present and decorate a card for a loved one. This is sponsored by the Friends of the Naselle Timberland Library.

On December 28, 1 p.m., at the Naselle Timberland Library, join them for a movie about two cold princesses and make blue ice slime afterwards.

In Skamokawa

If you love to hear professional musicians perform live for free, then set your calendar for this great event. The Skamokawa Grange # 425 at 18 Fairgrounds Road in Skamokawa is having another open mic night on December 16 starting at 4 p.m. All musicians and singers are encouraged to come by at 3:45 to sign up. A jam session will follow. Even if you can’t play an instrument or sing, come out and enjoy the local talent. There is no charge to attend; however, donation for the Grange is greatly appreciated. For additional information call Jerry Ledtke at 360--796--3434. All you Westenders come and show everyone what you got. The talent in this county amazes me. I have been playing music with many of the local musicians, and if you miss this one, you have missed a lot. Refreshments are provided by volunteers.

I would like to invite those who are a part of the Wahkiakum Acoustic Guitar Society (WAGS) to attend. Those from WAGS have a special gift that in my opinion should be heard by more people. WAGS gathers for a song circle the first Sunday of every month, 7 p.m., in the Community Center on Main Street in Cathlamet.
