Grays River Grange holds holiday party

December 20, 2018

The Grays River Grange #124 held their annual Christmas potluck party with the singing of Christmas carols, gift exchanges, numerous raffle drawings, and of course a visit from Santa. The food was memorable as well as abundant with a large variety of delicious desserts.

As usual, Grange Master Krist Novoselic was a great host who kept the evening very energetic, although the crowd was about half as many as last year due to the heavy rain. The Christmas Story from the Bible was read by Carol Ervest. All the songs were accompanied by pianist Bob Goldstick who came all the way from Seaside, Ore., in the rain to entertain us.

Although there were many there who received pins for their years of service to the grange, one in particular stood out. Eighty-four year old Don Raistakka has been a member of Grange #124 for sixty-five years. His momentary but inspirational acceptance speech was a brief glimpse into his past as a Grange member.

Author Robert Pyle was on hand to read "Twas the Night before Christmas." The thing that was impressive from my point of view as an adult was how captivated the children were to his presence. He made a connection with them that many would envy to have that gift.

The singing of Santa Claus is Coming to Town inspired Santa to make a special appearance and pass out presents to the children. The finale was the singing of Silent Night with lit candles followed by a moment of silence.

Members and guests of the Grays River Grange Christmas party enjoyed a fine meal.

Children enjoyed Bob Pyle's reading of "The Night Before Christmas.

Seaside pianist Bob Goldstick provided holiday music.
