January 10, 2019



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

December 31 — 4:58 a.m. The Department of Ecology and Georgia Pacific responded after a crane spilled oil onto a barge at Wauna Mill. 5:50 a.m. People were inside a home that caught fire in the Rosedale area. The Cathlamet Fire Department, the Cathlamet ambulance, and the PUD responded. A fire investigator and the Red Cross were notified. 9:52 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen. 1:19 p.m. A Rosedale resident said he was going to the hospital after a neighbor backed into his wife’s car. 1:44 p.m. A man was seen dancing and undressing on North Welcome Slough Road. 3:19 p.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance at an Elochoman Valley home. 5:32 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported trespassers.


January 1 — 5:31 a.m. A westbound vehicle was towing a boat without taillights. It had almost caused a couple accidents, according to the caller. 10:31 a.m. A Beaver Creek resident reported trespassers. 2:50 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident with respiratory issues.

January 2 — 7:36 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that he had found a wallet at Lowe’s in Longview. The owner was contacted and arrangements were made for her to pick it up. 7:51 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was unable to urinate.


January 3 — 7:27 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident with respiratory issues. 8:51 a.m. A caller reported an erratic driver headed east on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. 10:43 a.m. The Skamokawa ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who thought she was having a heart attack. 10:56 a.m. A Skamokawa business reported vandalism and a stolen cash register. 12:16 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident with slurred speech and respiratory issues. 5:46 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a clinic patient with chest pain to the hospital. 7:35 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Elochoman Valley resident.


January 4 — 3:39 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with urinary problems. 3:42 a.m. State patrol and the PUD were notified when a tree came down on power lines and onto SR 4 in the Skamokawa area. 7:45 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident who had fallen. 9:12 a.m. A battery was stolen out of an excavator on Beaver Creek. 11:05 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosedale home. 12:17 p.m. A caller reported a driver doing as much as 100 mph on SR 4 just west of Skamokawa, running other vehicles off the road. 5:58 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an Elochoman Valley home where a resident appeared to be choking. 7:11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was having a seizure.


January 5 — 11:30 a.m. An alarm was activated at a home on the east side of the county. The alarm company canceled the alarm. 12:25 p.m. Deputies, state patrol, the Puget Island Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a three vehicle accident on the Puget Island bridge. 2:39 p.m. An unoccupied boat was seen floating on the Columbia River near Puget Island. 5:19 p.m. A caller reported that a former Rosedale resident had returned to her home in a taxi and was asking neighbors to cut the locks off her doors. The former resident said she had been kicked out of assisted living. A little later, the individual asked the taxi driver to take her back to assisted living. 10:32 p.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing east county resident. 10:57 p.m. A caller reported that one of the plywood panels on the deck of the Puget Island bridge had come loose.


January 6 — 12:29 a.m. A caller reported that three trees were down on Altoona Pillar Rock Road. 12:51 a.m. The PUD was notified when the power went out at an Elochoman Valley home. 1:49 a.m. A caller reported that there were three vehicles parked in the middle of Beaver Creek Road and that people were fighting. They left a few minutes later. 7:16 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen. 7:48 a.m. The PUD was notified when the power went out at a Rosburg home. 7:52 a.m. A deputy and a representative from the mental health department responded to a Cathlamet home at the request of a concerned neighbor when a resident filled his oven with soiled clothing. 8:44 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident after she lost consciousness. 8:56 a.m. A caller reported that unknown people and vehicles were trespassing on several properties on East Valley Road. The caller said he planned to install cameras. 10:04 a.m. The PUD was notified after power went out at a Rosburg home. The resident believed a transformer had blown after hearing a loud boom. 11:11 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident after a friend became concerned about a recent post on Facebook. 1:12 p.m. A caller reported an unmanned boat on the Columbia River near Puget Island.

January 7 — 3:57 a.m. A caller reported that SR 4 was icy from Cathlamet to the western county line. 4:36 a.m. A caller reported that it was extremely icy on Beaver Creek Road.
